The term does not ring a bell. However, there are two terms that you may have heard;
1. Ferritin- a form of iron in the blood indicating total iron body stores.Therefore, low ferritin means iron defeciency. It drops early during the development od iron deficeincy before aerum iron and transferrin become abnormally low. When it is high, it indicates iron overload.
The only time it does not coincide with iron stores is in liver disease such as hepatitis, and tumors.
So an increased ferritin must be interpreted by the doctor who can match it with the patient’s overall health.
2. Serotonin-
Definition of Serotonin
Serotonin: A hormone, also called 5-hydroxytryptamine, in the pineal gland, blood platelets, the digestive tract, and the brain. Serotonin acts both as a chemical messenger that transmits nerve signals between nerve cells and that causes blood vessels to narrow.
Changes in the serotonin levels in the brain can alter the mood. For example, medications that affect the action of serotonin are used to treat depression.
Since you classified your question under diabetes, I think you were most likely referring to ferritin, since serotonin is usually associated with mental health problems.
